White Paper: Nebula in Action

Nebula has been working with scientists and system administrators at NASA for over a year to see how our Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform can benefit the Agency. In review of some of this year’s accomplishments, and to further explore Nebula’s capabilities, we are releasing a white paper at the 2011 NASA IT Summit today focusing on use cases identified through recent Nebula projects. Two case examples featured in the paper include Marshall Space Flight Center’s SPoRT and Goddard Space Flight Center’s NCCS (Center for Climate Simulation). SPoRT used Nebula to process data on damage inflicted by a series of tornadoes that ripped through Alabama this spring. NCCS completed a pilot project to develop an iRODS-based data management system dealing with massive data sets used in NASA’s climate and weather studies.

Tsengdar Lee will discuss two cases from this paper at the IT Summit on August 16 and provide additional background on Nebula. Be sure to follow summit activities at the event’s official website and engage remotely at http://open.nasa.gov/itsummit.
